PARLIAMENT

1959 - Entered into Politics and Contested for Maligawatta Ward (C.M.C.); 1962 and 1965; Contested for Colombo Municipal Council Elections; 1968 - Elected Deputy Mayor of Colombo; 1969 - First Candidate to give Nominations on an Election without being in the Country; 1973 - Elected as the 16th Mayor of Colombo; 1973-1974 - Won a Vote of No Confidence Motion and crossed over to SLFP with 14 C.M.C. members; 1974 - First SLFP Mayor of Colombo.1993 contested for Western Provincial Council elections and led the PA team and won Colombo District and WPC. 1994 elected to the Parliament.
