Italian Ambassador Meets Hon. Speaker of Parliament |

The Ambassador of Italy to Sri Lanka, H.E. Damiano Francovigh, met with the Hon. Speaker of the Parliament, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, recently (Feb. 25) at the Parliamentary premises. The Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, was also present at the meeting.
During the discussions, H.E. Damiano Francovigh highlighted the longstanding diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Italy. He acknowledged the significant contributions of the Sri Lankan expatriates living in Italy, noting their role in both the Italian economy and as a key source of remittances to Sri Lanka. The Ambassador also reiterated the Italian Embassy’s commitment to strengthening existing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
Hon. Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne emphasized the growing number of Italian tourists visiting Sri Lanka and expressed optimism about further enhancing tourism ties. He also briefed the Ambassador on Sri Lanka’s ongoing digitalization initiatives, which aim to enhance transparency. Additionally, he conveyed his intention to revive the Sri Lanka-Italy Parliamentary Friendship Association in the Tenth Parliament.
Further discussions focused on expanding trade and investment opportunities, boosting tourism, and exploring new employment opportunities for Sri Lankans.
