ILO Representatives Meet Hon. Speaker at the Parliament |

The representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) met with Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne yesterday (Feb. 24) at Parliament.
Ms. Joni Simpson, ILO Country Director for Sri Lanka and the Maldives; Mr. Thomas King, Chief Technical Advisor; Ms. Marian Fernando, National Project Coordinator for the Care Project; and Mr. Asitha Seneviratne, Programme Officer, participated from the ILO. Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Secretary-General of Parliament, also participated in the discussion with substantial contribution.
During the discussion, Hon. Speaker emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding social justice principles and ensuring equitable development through strengthened labour rights and protections.
The ILO representatives expressed their continued support in assisting Sri Lanka in strengthening its labour laws and policies. The discussion was also focused on the Violence and Harassment Convention (ILO C190) and its importance in fostering safe and fair workplaces.
