Announcements by the Speaker
1 : Receipt of copies of petitions in respect of the Bill titled “Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions)” filed at the Supreme Court
Presentation of Papers
(i) Performance Report of the Sri Lanka Railway Department for the year 2023.
(ii) Annual Report of the Jaya Container Terminals Limited for the year 2023.
(iii) Report on the Submission of observations and steps taken in terms of the Standing Order 119(4) of the Parliament with regard to the matters mentioned on the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation and the institutes coming under its purview in the report of the Committee on Public Accounts which was presented to Parliament.
(iv) Report on the Submission of observations and steps taken in terms of the Standing Order 119(4) of the Parliament with regard to the matters mentioned on the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and the institutes coming under its purview in the report of the Committee on Public Accounts which was presented to Parliament.
House agreed to the following Motions moved by the Hon. Leader of the House of Parliament
(i) Business of Parliament
That notwithstanding the motion agreed to by Parliament on 03rd December 2024, the Standing Order 111 of the Parliament shall be suspended until 14th February 2025.
(ii) Business of Parliament
That notwithstanding the motion agreed to by Parliament on 03rd December 2024, the Standing Order 50(2) of the Parliament shall operate with substitution of the words "Ministerial Consultative Committee" for the words "Sectoral Oversight Committee" until 14th February 2025.
(iii) Business of Parliament
That notwithstanding the motion agreed to by Parliament on 03rd December 2024, the Ministerial Consultative Committees shall have the power to examine any Bill, except the Bills defined in Article 152 of the Constitution, Treaty, Reports including the Annual and Performance Reports relating to the institutions coming under its purview or any other matter referred to the Committee by Parliament or any Committee or a Minister relating to the subjects and functions within their jurisdiction and report such matters to Parliament until 14th February 2025.
Votes of Condolence
Votes of Condolence on the following Ex-Members of Parliament were taken up and completed:-
(i) The Late Hon. Rukman Senanayake
(ii) The Late Hon. A. A. Reginald Perera
(iii) The Late Hon. Sirinal de Mel
(iv) The Late Hon. (Dr.) I. M. Ilyas
The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1256 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Wednesday 5th February 2025.
