Official Oath or Affirmation by New Members

•    The Hon. Mohomed Faizar Musthafa was sworn in as a Member of Parliament before the Hon. Deputy Speaker.
•    The Hon. Arjuna Sujeewa Senasinghe was sworn in as a Member of Parliament before the Hon. Deputy Speaker.
•    The Hon. Muhammedu Ismail Muththu Muhammedu was sworn in as a Member of Parliament before the Hon. Deputy Speaker.
•    The Hon. Mano Ganeshan was sworn in as a Member of Parliament before the Hon. Deputy Speaker.


Resignation of the Speaker

The letters sent by the Secretary to the President to the Secretary General of Parliament informing that the President has accepted the resignation of the Hon. Asoka Sapumal Ranwala from the Office of the Speaker


Election of Speaker

The Hon. (Dr.) Jagath Wickramaratne, M.P. was proposed and seconded for the office of the Speaker of the 10th Parliament by the Hon. (Dr.)(Ms.) Harini Amarasuriya, M.P. and the Hon. Bimal Rathnayake, M.P. respectively. Thereupon, the Hon. (Dr.) Jagath Wickramaratne who was elected as the new Speaker had been escorted to the Chair by the proposer and the seconder.

Congratulatory speeches were made by the Leaders of various political parties of both the Government and the Opposition. The Hon. Speaker made the reply speech.
