Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera has informed the Chairman of the Election Commission in writing that, the Hon. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Member of Parliament for the Electoral District of Colombo has informed her under his hand that he has resigned from his seat in Parliament with effect from the 23rd of September 2024, since he has assumed duties as the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka effective from that date.

The Secretary General has further stated in her letter that this notification has been made in terms of Section 64 (1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981 as amended by the Elections (Special Provisions) Act No. 35 of 1988, that a vacancy has occurred in the membership of the Ninth Parliament terms of the Article 66(c) of the Constitution.
