Recommendations of committees appointed for Easter Sunday attack not implemented
House agreed to the following Motions moved by the Hon. Leader of the House of Parliament -
(i) Select Committee of Parliament to look into and report to Parliament its recommendations to ensure gender equity and equality with special emphasis on looking into gender based discriminations and violations of women’s rights in Sri Lanka
That the time period granted to the Select Committee of Parliament to look into and report to Parliament its recommendations to ensure gender equity and equality with special emphasis on looking into gender based discriminations and violations of women’s rights in Sri Lanka, as specified in the Resolution passed by Parliament on 21 March 2023 be extended up to 05 October 2024 in terms of Standing Order 102 of the Parliament, as the Committee needs further time to consider and report its observations of the Interim Report to Parliament.
(ii) Select Committee of Parliament to look into and identify the mechanisms to be implemented in order to immediately control and eradicate the rapidly spreading drug menace in the country and to submit observations and recommendations to Parliament in that regard
That the time period granted to the Select Committee of Parliament to look into and identify the mechanisms to be implemented in order to immediately control and eradicate the rapidly spreading drug menace in the country and to submit observations and recommendations to Parliament in that regard, as specified in the Resolution passed by Parliament on 10 January 2024 be extended up to 27 July 2024 in terms of Standing Order 102 of the Parliament as the Committee needs further time to report its observations to Parliament.

Motion at the Adjournment Time
Motion at the Adjournment Time on “Not addressing key objectives of functions of independent commissions” was proposed by the Hon. Madhura Withanage, Attorney at Law.
The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1730 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Tuesday 2nd April 2024.
