Delegation from Parliament of Sri Lanka to London for the 72nd Westminster Conference |

Hon. Ajith Rajapaksa, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, along with Member of Parliament Hon. (Dr.) Harini Amarasuriya, Chief of Staff and the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament of Sri Lanka Mr. Chaminda Kularatna participated in the 72nd Westminster Conference held at the British Parliament in London, from 11th to 15th of March, representing the Sri Lanka Parliament.
A delegation including Members of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretaries representing about 28 Commonwealth countries, participated in this conference. Parliamentary traditions of Commonwealth member countries, privileges and powers of MPs, committee system, ways of enacting constitutional orders and their traditions, modern social media and technology and how research methods are used in the role of MPs were discussed.
The Sri Lankan delegation had the opportunity to participate in the 75th celebration of the Commonwealth held at the British Parliament this year, which marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Commonwealth of Nations, and the service held at Westminster Abbey in London. As the King of Britain, HRM Charles III, is not in grate physical Condition, a group of family Dignitaries including Queen Camilla, Crown Prince William, Prince Edward and Princess Anne, also attended the service held at the Westminster Abbey.
