Parliament reschedules its time of Sittings

The Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by the Hon. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today (10) arrived at a decision to change in the parliamentary sitting time with effect from the next sitting.

Accordingly, the sittings of Parliament under the new schedule will commence on 22nd of September at 10.00 am and will wind up at 5.30 pm. The Adjournment Motion will be debated from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

An order under the Finance Act No. 11 of 2006,  an Order under the Finance Act No. 12 of 2012, 05 Regulations under the Finance Act No. 35 of 2018, 03 Regulations and 02 Orders under the Foreign Exchange Act No. 12 of 2017 and 31 Regulations under the Special Commodity Levy Act No. 48 of 2007 tabled in Parliament on Tuesday (08), is scheduled to be debated and passed in Parliament on the 22nd.

The Oral questions pertaining to the First Session of the Ninth Parliament will be set in motion starting from the 22 of September onwards. Time will be allotted for the Members of Parliament to ask oral questions from 10.00 am to 11.00 am, accordingly.

Thereafter, the Performance Report of the Finance Commission for the last quarter of 2019 and the Performance report of the Election Commission for the third quarter of 2019, presented by the Speaker to the Parliament today (10) will be taken up as an adjournment debate moved as a government motion on 23rd and 24th September.

In addition, votes of condolence on Late MPs Hon. R M P Ratnayake and Hon. (Mrs) Surangani Ellawala will be presented on the 25th of September in Parliament.

M.A. Sumanthiran were present at the meeting.
