“Assistance and Protection to Victims of Crime and Witnesses”
The Leader of the House of Parliament on behalf of the Minister of Justice and Law Reforms, moved the Bill to provide for the setting out of rights and entitlements of victims of crime and witnesses and the protection and promotion of such rights and entitlements; to give effect to appropriate international norms and best practices relating to the protection of victims of crime and witnesses; the establishment of the National Authority for the protection of victims of crime and witnesses and the victims of crime and witnesses assistance and protection division of the Sri Lanka Police Department; establishment of the victims of crime and witnesses assistance and protection fund and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

House agreed to a Motion moved by the Leader of the House of Parliament that notwithstanding the provisions of Standing Order 121, the Committee of Selection shall consist of Mr. Speaker as Chairman and Twenty three (23) other members which shall include the Leaders of Political Parties or their nominees to be nominated by Parliament to serve during the current session.
Select Committee of Parliament on Electoral Reforms
House agreed to a Motion moved by the Leader of the House of Parliament for a further extension of time till 31st December, 2008.
Select Committee of Parliament to look into the alarming increase in traffic accidents
