His Excellency the President by virtue of the powers vested in him by Article 70 of the Constitution to be read with Sub-paragraph (c) of Paragraph (2) of Article 33 of the Constitution and in pursuance of the provisions of Section 10 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, No. 1 of 1981, dissolved the Parliament with effect from the midnight of 02nd of March 2020 and summoned the new Parliament to meet on the 14th of May 2020.
In addition to this, the date for the Parliamentary General Election has been fixed to 25.04.2020, and the nomination period has been specified as 12.03.2020 to 19.03.2020.
