Parliamentarian Hon. Ranjith De Zoysa Passes away

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Hon. Ranjith De Zoysa passed away today morning (04) while receiving treatment at a hospital in Singapore. The body will be brought to the country and the date of the funeral will be announced later.

 

He was 57 years of age at the time of his demise and was first elected to the parliament in 2010. Also he was an active member of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP)

 

He was a Planter and entered into active politics through Sri Lanka Freedom Party in the early 90’s. Mr Soyza had served as the Chairman of Atakalanpanna Pradeshiya Sabha in 1997 and Leader of the Opposition of Atakalanpanna Pradeshiya Sabha in 2002. He was elected to the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council in 2004 from the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and served as the Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Irrigation in the Provincial Council and subsequently was the minister of Health, Indigenous Medicine and Woman Affairs.

 

In his capacity as a Member of Parliament, he served as member of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Youth Affairs, Sports, Arts and Heritage of Parliament and the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Plantation Industries.
