PARLIAMENT

Hon. Member of Parliament (Dr.) Nishantha Samaraweera was unanimously elected as the Chair of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) of Parliament. He was appointed when the Committee on Public Enterprises met in Parliament yesterday (Jan. 09) for the first session of the Tenth Parliament.

The name of Hon. Member of Parliament (Dr.) Nishantha Samaraweera for the position of Chair was proposed by Hon. Member of Parliament Chandima Hettiarachchi and seconded by Hon. Member of Parliament Sunil Rajapaksa.

The COPE Chair addressed the committee, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and support from all members in advancing the committee’s work. He conveyed that he views the responsibility entrusted to him as a significant one and expects to act impartially in the future.
