Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus condemns the brutal teen gang-rape of a girl child in Thanamalwila and alleged harassment by Judicial Medical officer in Hambantota

The Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus has issued a statement condemning the inhuman series of gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl Child in Thanamalwila since 2023 and the verbal and emotional harassment by the Medical Officer as alleged by the mother of the victim.

The Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus Chair Hon. (Dr.) (Mrs.) Sudarshini Fernandopulle, in her statement highlights that the brutal violation of the affected girl shows how all responsible authorities of Sri Lanka, have failed in their duties and request that the in the aftermath of this profound injustice, to act in a conscientious, responsible and accountable manner.

The Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus states that such gross violations of women’s and children’s rights are unacceptable and must not be tolerated. The Caucus further establishes that all necessary measures to prevent such incidents and safeguard the rights and dignity of every girl child in Sri Lanka must be ensure.
