PARLIAMENT

The "Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO" Bill which was presented to the Parliament and submitted to the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Education, received the approval of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Education.

This approval was given when the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Education met in Parliament recently (Jun. 06) under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament Hon. (Dr.) V. Radhakrishnan.

This bill has been presented to make arrangements for the establishment of a National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and related activities.

The committee met and discussed this bill and the amendments to be made on several occasions before.

Members of Parliament Hon. Rohini Kumari Wijeratne, Hon. Manjula Dissanayake and (Prof.) Hon. Charita Herath participated in this meeting.

Officials from the Ministry of Education, the Attorney General's Department, the Legal Draftsman's Department and the Secretary General of the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO were also present in the meeting.
