Due to the internet and related social network activities, social changes are taking place and such changes are mostly negative and harmful rather than positive ones said Mr. Dharmananda Wijesinghe, executive member of the Sri Lanka Arts Council, at the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Media, Youth, Heritage and New Citizen.
This was discussed when the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Media, Youth, Heritage and New Citizen met in Parliament under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament Hon. Lalith Varna Kumara to discuss culture and modern youth of the country.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the changes taking place would damage the core of the values of the country and told the committee that this situation would severely affect the youth groups.
The committee discussed that if someone presents a rival political idea against the ideas of his party, he will be surrounded and attacked and political groups and political power projects operate in the form of mafia in social networks, which creates a very dangerous situation.
Furthermore, it was discussed at length in the committee that due to computer games that harm children's minds such as shooting, thoughts such as revenge are established in children's minds of harming others is a simple matter has become a serious condition.
The youth representatives who participated in the sectoral Oversight committee on Media, Youth, Heritage and New Citizen said that the implementation of leadership training programs for all young people should be considered as an important step.
Members of Parliament, Hon. S.M.M. Musharraf, Hon. Sanjeeva Edirimanna, Hon. Jagath Samarawickrama, Hon. Sarath Weerasekera, Hon. D. Weerasinghe and Hon. Isuru Dodangoda were participated at the meeting.
