• Attention should be directed at flights being delayed at the peak of tourist entry into the country - Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy & Transport emphasize

Hon. Nalaka Bandara Kottegoda, the Chair of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy & Transport recommended that the officials of the Civil Aviation Authority probe into whether an organized scheme is in place to cause failure in reviving the gradually rising tourist economy by causing to delay flights.

Hon. Nalaka Bandara Kottegoda stated the aforesaid when the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy & Transport met yesterday (Oct. 04) in Parliament under his Chairmanship.

Furthermore, it was discussed that the constant delay in flights is concerning especially where there is a peak of tourist entry into the country is observed, despite of the various challenges faced and in the midst of an economic crisis.

Officials representing the Civil Aviation Authority mentioned that there are many trade unions within the ambit of Sri Lanka Airlines, and various trade unions are not fulfilling their respective duties on time praying for various demands. As a result, the said context is prevailing, the officials present said.

The discussion held mainly took into consideration the constant flight delays and unexpected flight cancellations.

Hon. Nalaka Bandara Kottegoda, the Chair of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy & Transport stated that all parties should work to resolve the existing problems, and that it should not develop into a level that affects the country or the country's economy.

Moreover, the Civil Aviation (Amendment) Bill was also considered to which the Sectoral Oversight Committee agreed.

Members of the Sectoral Oversight Committee Hon. Kumarasiri Rathnayaka and Hon. Udayakantha Gunathilaka and a group of officials representing Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority were present at the Sectoral Oversight Committee meeting held.
