The first report of the National Council sub-committee on identifying short- and medium-term programs related to economic stabilization was presented to the National Council by its chairman Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, Member of Parliament yesterday (Nov. 10)
Also, the summary progress report of the National Council sub-committee on identifying short and medium-term programs related to National Policy was presented to the National Council by its chairman Hon. Namal Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament.
These reports were presented when the National Council met in the Parliament yesterday (10) under the chairmanship of Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, Speaker of Parliament with the participation of Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, the Prime Minister.
Chairman of the National Council sub-committee on identifying short- and medium-term programs related to economic stabilization Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka expressing his view said that this report was prepared following the discussions in which ministry officials and professional level experts were called before the sub-committee in relation to nine fields. He further said that the complete report of this sub-committee is expected to be presented in December.
Expressing his appreciation to the National Council sub-committee for the purpose of Economic Stabilization for compiling the said report. The Speaker further said that after tabling this report, steps will be taken to provide it to all parliament.
Addressing the Committee, Prime Minister Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena said that these important recommendations presented by the National Council sub-committees are expected to be considered and implemented as soon as possible. The Prime Minister pointed out that we should work with relevant ministries and institutions for that purpose. The Prime Minister also said that he expects the support of all Members of Parliament regardless of party politics for that.
Expressing views about the progress of the National Council sub-committee on identifying short and medium-term programs related to National Policy, its chairman Hon. Namal Rajapaksa said that the National Council can play a major role in formulating policies that remain unchanged when governments change. He also pointed out that his sub-committee is engaged in such line of work with an integrated approach by coordinating all relevant institutions.
State Minister Hon. Sisira Jayakody, Members of Parliament Hon. Rohitha Abeygunawardana, Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, Hon. A. L. M. Athaullah, Hon. Sagara Kariyawasam were present at the Council meeting held.
