Self-Assessment workshop on the critical role of Parliament and Parliamentarians in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) |

A workshop on the critical role of Parliament and Parliamentarians in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is scheduled to be held from 12th to 14th October 2018 at the Hilton Colombo. This event is organized by the Parliamentary Select Committee on 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The objective of this workshop which is based on the UNDP/IPU Self-Assessment Toolkit for Parliaments and Parliamentarians is to assist Parliaments and their members to:
- assess their preparedness to engage with the SDGs;
- identify additional strategies, mechanisms and partnerships to support implementation of the SDGs more effectively.
The event will commence with an inauguration ceremony on 12th October from 4. 45 p.m. onwards at “The Blue” Hilton Colombo with the participation of the Hon. Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Hon. Members of the Parliament and several dignitaries from the government, non-governmental organizations, youth organizations and private sector.
The workshop is facilitated by Hon. Thilanga Sumathipala MP, Chairman of Parliamentary Select Committee on Sustainable Development, Mr. John Hyde, Former Member of Western Australian Parliament and Consultant on SDGs & Public Outreach for Parliament, UNDP, Mr. Alex Read, Consultant on SDGs from IPU, Mr. Tikiri Jayathilaka, Assistant Secretary General (Legislative Services), Ms. Kushani Rohanadeera, Assistant Secretary General (Administrative Services), Mr. Kithsiri Rajatha Wijeweera, Senior Economic Advisor (Sri Lanka and Maldives) UNDP, Ms. Sonali Dayaratne, Policy Specialist (Governance & Reconciliation), UNDP, Ms. Tharuka Dissanaike, Policy Specialist (Environment), UNDP, Ms. Visakha Hidallage, Consultant, Environment Protection and Disaster Resilience, UNDP.
