Procedure of Electing a President by the Parliament


Election was held to elect the President in terms of the Presidential Elections (Special Provisions) Act, No. 2 of 1981. In the election, Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe received 134 votes; Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma 82 votes and Hon. Anura Dissanayaka 03 votes.

Accordingly, Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe was elected the Succeeding President by Parliament.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1336 Hrs. until 1000 Hrs. on Wednesday 27th July 2022.
