Announcements by the Speaker

“The Honourable Members, I wish to inform this House that the Secretary General of Parliament, as the Returning Officer, will now begin the work pertaining to receipt of nominations to elect a qualified Member by Parliament for the office of the succeeding President vacant at present, as it was informed you on Saturday 16th July 2022 in terms of the provisions of the relevant Act”


The names of following three Members of Parliament were nominated to the office of President-

(i) Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma
was proposed by Hon. Sajith Premadasa and seconded by Hon. (Prof.) G. L. Peiris

(ii) Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe
was proposed by Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena and seconded by Hon. Manusha Nanayakkara

(iii) Hon. Anura Dissanayaka
was proposed by Hon. Vijitha Herath and seconded by Hon. (Dr.) (Ms.) Harini Amarasuriya


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1010 Hrs. until 1000 Hrs. on Wednesday 20th July 2022.
