Presentation of Bills

The Bill entitled "National Thoroughfares"

The Chief Government Whip of Parliament on behalf of the Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Administration, and Deputy Minister of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order moved the Bill to provide for the planning, design, construction, development, maintenance and administration of an integrated public road network in Sri Lanka; to provide the Legal framework necessary to facilitate private sector investment and participation in road construction, development and maintenance; to assist the provincial councils and local authorities in the development and maintenance of roads; to promote and facilitate community based organisations engaging in the construction, maintenance and management of roads and public roads; and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.


Main Business of the House for Today

The following items (appearing as Item Nos. 1 to 4 of today’s Order Paper) were passed by the House:-

• Order under the State Industrial Corporation Act, (No.1)

• Order under the State Industrial Corporation Act, (No.2)

• Order under the National Environmental Act

• Regulations under the National Environmental Act


Motion at Adjournment Time

Motion at Adjournment Time on “Horana Sripali Campus to be upgraded as a university” was moved by the Hon. Piyasiri Wijenayake, M.P.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1600 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Friday 12th September 2008.
