Hon. Rajeevan Jeyachandramoorthy,—To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education,— (1)

(a) Will she inform this House —

(i) of the number of teachers’ colleges available in Sri Lanka;

(ii) whether steps will be taken to convert those colleges into other training centers related to the field of education since the number of students learning at the teachers colleges is very low;

(iii) whether steps will be taken to conduct a one-year, full-time postgraduate diploma course at the teachers colleges referred to above since the National Institute of Education is an institution qualified for awarding degrees; and

(iv) if not, of the action that will be taken in the future regarding the teachers colleges concerned?

(b) If not, why?
