Hon. Ajith Gihan,—To ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism,— (1)

(a) Will he inform this House—

(i) whether he is aware that a large number of people from Puttalam District work in Italy and that the inability to get their driving licenses renewed has become a major issue for them;

(ii) if so, of the steps that will be taken in that regard;

(iii) whether he is aware that Sri Lankan workers engaged in foreign employment are subjected to inhuman torture;

(iv) if so, of the steps that will be taken in that regard;

(v) of the measures that will be taken to enforce the law against institutions/individuals who have swindled money by making promises to provide foreign employment; and

(vi) of the measures that will be taken to recover the money so swindled?

(b) If not, why?
