PARLIAMENT

Though the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal Limited and Public Utilities Commission Chairpersons were scheduled to be summoned before the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) at 10.00 am tomorrow (12), it was decided to not hold the Committee meeting as scheduled due to the current political situation in the country, Hon. (Prof) Charitha Herath, Chairman of COPE said.

Due to the personal statement made by the Chairman of Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission during the last COPE meeting, a great controversy arose in the country regarding the price of petroleum. An investigation into this was to be conducted based on the statement of the chairman of the Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission and the Auditor General's report on the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal Limited.

Hon. (Prof) Charitha Herath, Chairman of COPE and Member of Parliament stated that the Committee meetings will resume once the prevailing situation has settled.
