The Second Meeting of the Select Committee of Parliament on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was held on Wednesday the 25th of January 2017 at the Committee Room No. 02.
The Hon. Thilanga Sumathipala, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka as the chairman of the Committee proposed to divide the 17 SDGs into 5 core values. The Department of Census and Statistics will work to prepare a frame work to identify SDG indicators for the country.
The committee appointed a working committee comprising of the officials of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and wildlife, the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs and the Department of Census and Statistics to conduct an assessment of country situation with regard to the 17 Sustainable Development goals at National, Provincial, District, Divisional secretariat and Grama Niladhari divisions level and to compare our national level standard with Asian and Global standards.
The committee also decided to organize Knowledge Exchange Sessions for Members of the Parliament regularly.
Committee members Hon. Niroshan Perera, Hon. V.S. Radhakrishnan, and Hon. Anuradha Jayaratne participated at the meeting.
