Business of the House for May 10, 2018

The Hon. Karu Jayasuriya, the Speaker took the Chair.


House agreed to the following Motions moved by the Hon. Gayantha Karunatileka, the Chief Government Whip -

(i)    Committee on Parliamentary Business

That notwithstanding the provisions of Standing Order No. 115 of Parliament, the Committee on Parliamentary Business shall consist of the Speaker as the Chair, the Deputy Speaker, the Deputy Chairman of Committees, the Leader of the House of Parliament, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, the Chief Government Whip, the Chief Opposition Whip and fifteen (15) other Members to be nominated by the Committee of Selection

(ii)    Select Committee of Parliament to recommend and report on the possibility of enabling Sri Lankans employed overseas to exercise their franchise in future elections and matters incidental thereto

That in terms of Standing Order No. 102, this Parliament do grant the Select Committee of Parliament to recommend and report on the possibility of enabling Sri Lankans employed overseas to exercise their franchise in future elections and matters incidental thereto appointed by the Hon. Speaker, on 17th November 2016, an extension of time till 20th  November 2018 as the Committee is unable to report its findings to Parliament within the time limit granted by the motion agreed to by the Parliament on 06th April 2016

(iii)    Select Committee of Parliament to look into and report on the expenses incurred by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka for the purchasing of the Office for the Sri Lankan Embassy in Brazil and the Office for the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, New York, USA, separately in respect of each premises

That in terms of Standing Order No. 102 of Parliament, this Parliament  do grant the Select Committee of Parliament to look into and report on the expenses incurred by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka for the purchasing of the Office for the Sri Lankan Embassy in Brazil and the Office for the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, New York, USA, separately in respect of each premises appointed by the Hon. Speaker, on 23rd May 2017, an extension of time till 05th December, 2018 as the Committee is unable to report its findings to Parliament within the time limit granted by the Motion agreed to by Parliament on 09th February 2017


Adjournment Motion

Adjournment Motion on “Address of Parliament by His Excellency the President on 08.05.2018” was proposed by the Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1830 Hrs. until 1030 Hrs. on Friday 11th May 2018.
