Question Asked By Hon. Buddhika Pathirana


Hon. Buddhika Pathirana,—To ask the Minister of National Co-existence, Dialogue and Official Languages,—

(a) Will he inform this House—

(i) whether courses of action have been taken to teach Sinhala language to the Tamil speaking people and  Tamil language to the Sinhala speaking people;

(ii) if so, what those courses of action are;

(iii) whether steps have been taken to teach Tamil and Sinhala languages to the unemployed school dropouts, public servants and employees in the private sector; and

(iv) if so, what those steps are?

(b) Will he also inform this House—

(i) whether there are sufficient number of teachers to engage in that task;

(ii) if so, the methodology adopted for the selection of those teachers; and

(iii) if not, whether action will be taken to recruit teachers?

(c) Will he state—

(i) whether financial provisions have been allocated to teach Sinhala and Tamil languages; and

(ii) if so, the amount of money that has been allocated?

(d) If not, why?
